It is an exciting time to be in the information field and a particularly exciting time to study at Wayne State. Whether you are a first-time graduate student or wish to return for more advanced education, we have a program to suit your needs and career interests. Our degrees and certificates can be completed entirely online and most courses are presented in an asynchronous format to offer our students the flexibility they need to meet their educational goals.
We are fortunate to be part of a large, dynamic research institution with proven leaders. We have an excellent full-time faculty of researchers and educators. We draw upon leading information professionals who teach part-time and supervise our student interns. In addition, we have a dedicated, professional staff who make student success their top priority.

The mission of the American Library Association-accredited Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree is to prepare professionals for leadership roles in libraries and other information organizations. Our curriculum establishes a practical foundation for all students, while providing individuals the opportunity to customize their coursework with curriculum paths that suit their personal interests and career goals.

Archives
The School of Information Sciences at Wayne State is one of the oldest archival education programs in the nation. Our longevity and high ranking is due to our commitment to experiential education as well as our innovative curriculum that prepares students for the rigors of professional archival work. Students leaving this program will be equipped with both traditional and digital skills along with many opportunities to network with professionals.

Our children and youth programs provide the specialized training needed to serve young library users. No matter how big or small your library may be, you can build collections, programs and services that educate and entertain children of all ages - and we can show you how. Classes related to collection development, technology, instructional methods, literacy and outreach, move beyond theory to provide you with new skills and tools to stay ahead of trends for today's children and young adults.
